I think you are right, firm boundaries are the difference between a sucker and a powerful and successful person. I'm teaching my six year old son the balance of getting kicked in the face (and opting to cry about it), and growing an ability to maintain the friendship with the kicker, while making damned sure it won't happen again! I'm good at standing up for myself and my beliefs, but it often does not win me any affiliates...
